The original thermocouple was insulated by air that positive and negative horns hinged to the measuring end, then was developed to the assembly with protection tube, welded measuring end and ceramic insulation, we usually call this kind as the first generation of thermocouples.

Until 30 years ago, the first great breakthrough was made in the manufacture and application of thermocouples that is used to insulate bare thermocouple wires from one another and the metal sheath that surrounds them, it has two or four bare thermocouple wires running down the middle of the tube, the tube is then filled with magnesium oxide powder and compacted to ensure the wires are properly insulated and separated, we usually call this semi thermocouples “mineral insulated cable” as the second generation, it have been rapidly popularized due to the absolute superiority of technology ,quality and cost.
